Serious question, was the $40 I spent on a slice of rusty pipe at a Michigan flea market art or just rust?

I grabbed what I thought was a bent piece of pipe from a junk table near Flint for maybe $40, mostly as a joke for my garage wall. Hung it up by the window and now when the afternoon sun hits it, the rust makes this deep orange and black pattern that people keep asking me who painted it. It's just a pipe. So is this stuff art or am I just cheap? Has anyone else bought literal garbage that ended up looking like a gallery piece?
