Vent: paid $19 for a domain renewal on a site I forgot about and now I'm weirdly attached to it
So back in 2016 I bought a dumb little domain for a blog about my backyard garden in Spokane, posted maybe 11 times total, and then just stopped. Last week I got the auto renewal email and it was $19, and for some reason I actually paid it instead of letting it die. Honestly I have thought about this a lot since then. The site still sits there with a WordPress theme from 2015 and my last post is about a tomato plant that died, and I cannot bring myself to take it down. There is something about a site that still loads but nobody updates that feels different from a site that is gone. I checked the Wayback Machine for it just to see if anyone ever saved it, and nope, not a single snapshot. Which honestly made me want to keep it up even more, like I am the only person in the world keeping this thing alive. Curious if anyone else here has a dead site they pay for out of pure stubbornness, and how long you let it ride before you finally pulled the plug. It has been 9 years for me and I am not sure when that stops.
