I paid $35 to join a dead fishing forum just to read one trip report, and I regret nothing
Back around 2009 there was a small fishing board for a lake near my hometown, and it shut down to new posts years ago but the owner kept the site up. You could not read the archived reports without a paid membership, so I sent the guy $35 by check and waited 11 days for him to mail me a login. The site has maybe 40 members left, the newest post is from 2016, and the classifieds section is full of boats that were sold long ago. Best money I ever threw at the internet, honestly, because one 2004 report about jigging near the spillway put me on fish for three straight seasons.

Waited 11 days for a check to clear in 2009? That part tracks, people still mailed checks for stuff like that back then. But the whole "best money ever" thing feels like a stretch, you dropped 35 bucks to read a report from 2004 on a board with 40 members and no posts since 2016. The info about jigging near the spillway might still hold up since fish habits do not change much, but you could probably find the same spots by talking to locals at the ramp for free. Sounds less like a smart buy and more like paying for a trip down memory lane, which is fine, just do not dress it up like some hidden gem. Feels more like nostalgia than a real value play.
