Just realized my GeoCities archive lost all its hit counters sometime between March and June 2024
I went back to check my old fan page for The X-Files that I built in 1998 on GeoCities, and every single animated hit counter that used to spin and flash was just a blank gray box. I emailed the archive team at web.archive.org and they said the counters relied on a remote CGI script from a service called WebCounter that shut down its servers in April 2024. So now these pages look naked without that little odometer ticking up visitors, and it honestly changed the whole feel of the page. Has anyone else noticed missing guestbook buttons or counters on their old snapshots, and did you find a workaround?
